FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz., Feb. 8, 2006 — OpenSystems Publishing (OSP), LLC, today announced that it has launched a new web page dedicated to Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) on a worldwide basis. The web page accessible at www.opensystems-publishing.com/environment/ provides detailed and up-to-date information about RoHS,WEEE, and lead-free initiatives.
For several years, the industry has been working toward eliminating lead in electronics as required under the RoHS directive. However, complying with RoHS is actually much more complicated, as companies are finding out. Many issues exist...and it's a challenge keeping track of them all, let alone implementing industry-wide and company-specific solutions.
“Environmental regulations about lead-free production and recycling become legal requirements in the European Union (EU) and in China on July 1, 2006,” said Hermann Strass, industry analyst and VMEbus Systems magazine columnist. “OSP has created an Environmental webpage with information about important issues and practical information to help readers understand and comply with these legal requirements,” he added.
The website is divided into two sections: Lead-free/RoHS and Recycling/WEEE specifically addressing these topics as specified in regulations in Europe and Asia. In addition to technical information, there are numerous links to additional information about legal issues, government and research reports. Practical experience information about companies and organizations that are complying with these regulations from Europe, Japan and China should help others on their road to compliance. The Environmental website can be reached from any of OSP's magazine websites. The web page will have regular updates and a news ticker that keeps the web page content current. Companies can post RoHS and WEEE news releases directly on OSP's website at www.opensystems-publishing.com/news/submit.
OSP also plans to launch a RoHS E-cast in September 2006. For information on participating, click here: www.opensystems-publishing.com/ecast.html
