The MPEG4000XLP from Advanced Micro Peripherals is a PC/104-Plus multi channel MPEG-4 compression and overlay controller board supporting up to four real time analog NTSC/PAL input channels.
The MPEG4000XLP is ideal for applications in…
- Defense: Ruggedized digital video recorders and situation awareness systems for ground vehicles and UAVs
- Traffic monitoring: Capture and store multiple camera images for real time traffic monitoring
- Security systems: Remote sensing, motion detection and streamed images for CCTV security camera systems
- Transportation: Digital video recording for evidential monitoring and telematics research
- Medical instrumentation: Real time video capture / annotation for patient monitoring systems
Industry leading MPEG-4 codec for rugged, long life applications:
The MPEG4000XLP is a low power PC/104-Plus module that compresses up to four concurrent full-size real-time analog inputs from NTSC or PAL video and audio sources. It can also decode and playback video and audio recordings from storage to display. A Preview feature allows incoming video to be viewed on the host screen in parallel with the recording process. The MPEG4000XLP provides high quality multi channel video and audio processing using a 32 bit PCI architecture, with minimal host CPU intervention. This facilitates highly compact and rugged systems design using low power fanless CPUs such as the AMD Geode, Intel Atom and VIA C7 devices. The Power PC architecture is also fully supported, with a complete set of drivers and an SDK.

- Compact 3.6 x 3.8in PC/104-Plus form factor
The MPEG4000XLP is available as commercial and extended temperature (-40 to +85°C) options as well as with conformal coating.
For surveillance and monitoring applications, the MPEG4000XLP enables text and simple graphics overlays to be combined with the live video for both preview and compression. The supplied SDK enables data such as camera identification, date/time, location data and frame numbers to be easily added to the video image. The motion detection enables areas of interest to be monitored in hardware and to generate an alert when movement is sensed.
Reduces development time
The MPEG4000XLP’s is supported with comprehensive SDKs for recording, video streaming over an IP network and telemetry applications, significantly reducing development time in Windows, Linux and QNX environments. It includes support libraries, drivers and a number of example applications complete with source code.

Do you need a more compact solution for your video application?
The microMPEG4 miniPCI card is a good alternative to the MPEG4000XLP for more space constrained applications or, when PC/104 expansion is not available. The microMPEG4 offers many of the features of the MPEG4000XLP but with reduced power consumption. The microMPEG4 is also supported with Linux drivers for ARM platforms as well as standard x86 systems making it suitable for platform solutions using Intel’s IXP4xx family of ARM/XScale network communication processors. The combination of these Intel ARM compatible solutions and the microMPEG4 enables developers to create powerful monitoring solutions with resilient, fully encrypted network communications.

Software Development Kit Available
The MPEG4000XLP and microMPEG4 are supported with comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK) for recording, IP streaming and telemetry. The SDKs provide a set of high level APIs to configure and control the embedded video hardware and save you a significant amount of development time.
The SDK consists of support libraries and drivers as well as a range of example applications (including source code). These examples show how the SDK can be utilized to harness the power of the MPEG codecs in complex video/graphic applications.
