Pentek’s New Software Radio PMC/XMC Captures
|
The Model 7156 Dual-Channel Transceiver is the latest PMC module from Pentek. It includes two 400 MHz A/D converters with 14-bit resolution and two 800 MHz D/A converters with 16-bit resolution. Both data converters are new Texas Instrument monolithic devices, the AD5474 and the DAC5688. While this module is immediately attractive to developers of military radio with high bandwidth channels, its wideband data converters and multichannel synchronization also target new wideband radar applications. The new PMC features a clock synthesizer that accepts an external 5 or 10 MHz reference signal and synthesizes two phase-locked, low-jitter clocks that are delivered separately to the data converters. A front panel connector carries clock and sync signals for synchronizing multiple 7156’s to support beamforming, diversity combining, and phased-array applications. The dual FPGA architecture offers plenty of processing power with the flexibility to handle custom DSP algorithms in the signal processing FPGA and custom I/O functions in the interface FPGA. In addition to the 100 MHz 64-bit PCI-X interface, the 7156 offers an XMC interface for gigabit serial I/O. Customers can install their own serial communication IP or popular I/O standards such as Xilinx Aurora, a low-overhead protocol for point-to-point connections.
